steevilweevil asked: I got some recently and they just aren't germinating! I've planted them in the soil they came with (made from coconut rusk apparently) and they have refused to come to life :( Any tricks to improve my chances?

I’m assuming you have either Flytrap of Sarracenia seeds. Growing carnivores from seed isn’t easy. And when your successful, most plants are not mature enough to flower until the age of three years.

The most important thing is light and patience. Sprinkle your seeds on the surface of your medium (typically peat moss & sand or perlite). Set the pot in about an inch or so of pure water (It must be pure! This means rain water/reverse osmosis/distilled water. Bottled drinking water is not pure water!) and keep it at this level. Put your seeds in a warm location a couple inches under fluorescent lights. It is also a good idea to keep the pot in a plastic bag under the light to keep the humidity level high.

Then wait. This will take a long time, perhaps a couple months. In about two years the plants will be mature enough to repot and grow outside year-round!

Good luck and Good Growing! Any more questions, Ask!
